synergy yoga

mary: my name is mary michelle chua and i'm a part-time faculty instructing yoga and dance conditioning. yoga is a lifestyle, it's more than just a pose or a stretch. it's integrating the philosophy into how you live your life and how you treat other people. yoga is great, especially for new university students because it is a self empowering practice of building self awareness. coming from a place of making decisions especially big life decisions like where you want to go career wise, what you want to study, where you want to live

synergy yoga, all these things that we may ask ourselves at this stage of our life. and we can enter that transition with a sense of calm marina: i wanted a class that would help me unwind from the stress of the week, so i decided to take yoga. kim: i like the fact of trying out something that would help me work out and also relax with my heavy workload this semester.

mary: college is such a time, its such a time of confusion and trying to find your path. and trying to do what you love or finding out what that is, career-wise. so, when you take a yoga class, which is meant to bring centeredness to you and help you to live with intention, wherever you end up going its like your compass. it helps you to reassure yourself that you put in the effort and maybe you don't know what's going to happen, but you have a direction that you're aiming towards. yoga helps to facilitate that. marina: i would recommend this class, especially for students because it helps you relieve stress for the week and it just helps you unwind your mind. mary: one of the things that people will tell me is "oh, i can't do yoga, i can't bend down to touch my toes." it's not about touching your toes. it's great if you can, and it's great if you can't. it's meeting yourself exactly where you are and whether you're doing it for physical gain or spiritual gain, and taking it from there.

kim: this class has changed me in the sense that i've gained a lot of upper body strength. i'm able to calm my mind and it's been interesting seeing my flexibility increase. mary: yoga is such an individual practice, and it can be tailored to any person, physically or mentally, whatever it is. i hope that the students will get something unique for them that will touch them enough and benefit them enough that they will continue to do it. kim: for anybody taking some crazy work and just needs something to gain some flexibility, i would definitely recommend yoga.
