yoga wichita ks

hi guys, keith sparks here with ict muscle& joint clinic and dr. rachel is actually behind you being so gracious taking the videofor us today. we are going to talk about plantar fasciitisand a beginning exercise we commonly do for our plantar fasciitis patients. so, plantar fasciitis is really a fancy wayof saying pain right here on the heel. what happens with plantar fasciitis is themuscles in the bottom of the foot and the brain are not connecting anymore and throughoutthe night our body goes through a healing process. as we wake up and start moving thereis a scab inside that heals throughout the night and we break that scab open.

so there are a lot of great soft tissue stuffout there to help plantar fasciitis. today we are going to talk about an exercisewe do to help the muscles on the bottom of the foot and the brain recommunicate. when we talk about plantar fasciitis andfoot structure we really need to respect a principle whats called the tripod. the tripod means we want equal pressure atthe heel of the foot and then right under the balls of the foot. the 1st mtp joint and the 5th mtp joint. wheneverwe have this tripod we can create a really solid base for the foot to move off of andpush off of for jumping, running, walking,

you name it. so rachel i would like you to zoom in on myfeet. i want you to do this exercise with both feetfirst. the first thing we are going to do is tryto pick up just the big toe while holding what is called a neutral ankle, alright. you don't want to have your feet collapseinward and you don't want to have your feet round outward. you want to have your foot with the ankle/midfootright here in the middle. its called neutral ankle.

so from here i want you just to think aboutpicking up your big toe and seeing how well you hold that neutral ankle. from there what i want you to try and do is keep thebig toe down and i want you to pick up and reach with the outside four toes. this is really really important. a lot of times with plantar fasciitis patientsyou'll actually see that part right there where they pick up the outside four toes you'llsee that midfoot drop down and inward. back to the foot. when you pick up these outside four toes commonlyyou'll see the person do this to try and get

the toes up. they cannot hold this neutral ankle and reachout. if you see your fingers do weird silly thingsdon't worry about it. it is really really common. it goes to show you how the bottomof the foot and the brain is a full body connectiveness that needs to be addressed when treating plantarfasciitis. so, let us know what you think and give usa shout out. thanks!
